Free eBooks for iPads and Android Tablets

Fantastic news! Just released - Hundreds of high-quality, free ebooks available in the Open eBooks app!

This is really big for Title I schools.  If you are not a Title I school, there are still options available. Either way, check it out.

1) Sign Up Here: https://register.firstbook.org (You'll need to know your Free and Reduced Lunch rates and an estimate of the number of students by grade level.)

2) Add the appropriate collection (elementary, middle, or high) to your cart and check out. Change the quantity to the number of iPads you have. There is no cost and no credit card is needed.

3) Download the Open eBooks app (It also works on Android).  I did not see it available in the Amazon Appstore on my Kindle Fire.

4) Check your email for the directions and access codes/pins.

5) Open the app. Enter the code and you suddenly have all of the ebooks at your fingertips! Click the book you want to read and the book is checked out to you.  You may check out up to ten books at a time and books are borrowed for up to 56 days. You will want a different code for each school device (due to the ten book limit).

You may sign up on behalf of your students as well.  The email comes with codes and a print-ready document with directions.  There's even a Spanish version of the parent directions.

There was a great selection of fiction books at the elementary level.  These included popular book series and authors.

I had no trouble at home, but I did have some trouble getting this working at my school.  I'll be updating this post after checking with our technician.
